Warm Home Discount
The Warm Home Discount scheme (“WHDS”) is a government initiative that helps low-income customers to afford their winter energy bills. If you're eligible for the scheme, you'll receive a discount of £140 on your energy.
On 28th November 2018, Spark became part of the OVO Energy Ltd family. The good news is that Spark will continue to administer the Warm Home Discount scheme with OVO, and Spark customers eligible for the WHDS will notice little change.
There are two groups of customers who benefit from the Warm Home Discount - the 'Core' group and the 'Broader' group.
The Core group
To be part of the Core group, you or your partner must be the named electricity account holder and be in receipt of either of the following:
- The Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit only (not just the State Pension).
- The Guarantee Credit element and the Savings Credit element of Pension Credit.
The WHDS will continue to run as intended for Core group customers and you should have received a letter direct from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) titled “Warm Home Discount: £140 automatic help with your energy costs”. If you have received this letter, you do not need to contact us and your rebate will be applied automatically to your account by 31st March 2019.
If you think you should be part of the Core group but did not receive a letter by the 2nd December 2018, contact the DWP Core group Helpline on 0800 731 0214, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. The deadline to claim the discount is 28th February 2018, so please ensure you contact the DWP Core group helpline before this date, so you don’t miss out.
Some customers may also have received a letter from DWP titled Warm Home Discount: Don’t miss out on £140 help with your energy costs.” In this instance, customers should follow the instructions in the letter and call the helpline on 0800 917 1003 before 28th February 2019.
The Broader Group
Eligibility for the Broader group depends on your personal circumstances and, if you think you’re eligible, you must submit an application form to your energy supplier.
The WHDS opened for applications to the Broader group on 1st October 2018 and closed to new applications on 23rd November. We're unable to accept any new applications this year.
The good news for customers who applied up to 23rd November 2018 is that we are working on your application and will be in touch to let you know if your application has been successful. Successful customers will receive their £140 rebate by 31st March 2019.
