Warm Home Discount
Keeping you warm in winter
The Warm Home Discount scheme is a government programme aimed at helping people who may struggle to pay for their winter energy bills. This year the scheme is running from October 2018 to February 2019 when eligible customers can apply to receive a £140 discount off on their energy costs.
How can I check if I’m eligible?
There are two groups of customers who can benefit from the Warm Home Discount - the 'Core' group and the 'Broader' group.

If you're in the Core group you’ll receive a letter direct from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). If you receive this letter, you don’t need to contact us and the letter will tell you what you need to do next. You’re in this group if you or your partner are the named electricity account holder and receive either of the following:
- The Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit only (not just the State Pension).
- The Guarantee Credit element and the Savings Credit element of Pension Credit.
If you think you should be part of the Core Group but don't get a letter by the 8th December, feel free to call the Core Group Helpline on 0800 731 0214, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm (15th October 2018 – 29th March 2019). Remember, the deadline to claim for the discount is 28th February 2019. Please ensure you contact the DWP helpline on 0800 731 0214 before to this date so that you don't miss out.
What’s the deadline for applying?
Once we’ve reached a certain number of applications, we’ll unfortunately have to close this year’s scheme.This is likely to be towards the end of 2018.
When will the discount be paid?
If you're eligible for the discount and your application has been successful, the payment will be applied to your account by the end of March 2019.
What happens if I move house or switch suppliers?
If you're in the Core Group, you'll still get the discount from us as long as Spark was your energy supplier on 8 July 2018. If you still have a balance left to pay, we’ll put the discount onto your account to help you pay it off. If you have nothing left to pay, we’ll simply send a cheque to your new home, so please do make sure that you let us know what your new address is.
If you’re in the Broader Group and move house or switch supplier before the payment is made, your application will be closed and you’ll need to reapply with your chosen energy supplier.
If you have a debt on your account, we might be able to help you clear this and get you back on track as part of our Spark Fund scheme. There are a few rules on who can qualify for the Fund but we can use your Warm Home Discount application to assess your eligibility.
